Knocking on Heaven's Door by Patient

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Mr. Whitaker we are so appreciative of NRHS and the manner in which all of your employees care about their patients.

I was admitted to the HealthPlex in August as a result of the caring staff on the fourth floor. Because I have been working with the staff on the fourth floor while construction is taking place on the fifth floor, we are not strangers. One day I was returning from lunch and by the grace of God pushed the fourth floor instead of the fifth. When I came out of the elevator Pam noticed I did not look good and asked if I was OK. I blew it off to physical therapy as I could hardly walk from leg cramps.

The receptionist and the nurses did not buy that and observed me as I went to the men’s room. While in the men’s room I heard a knock on the door and it was a lady’s voice. When I came out there were four nurses there each with their own special medical equipment ready to check me out. They did not take no for an answer and they took me down to the emergency room. Little did I know that my potassium level was 7.5 and I had had a bit of heat exhaustion. From the emergency room to my five day stay on the fourth floor I was treated with exceptional care by all.

My wife said the text I sent Amy said it all and thought it would be good for you to know my feelings about my experience. The following is a copy of the text,

"I am feeling better as days go by. Will be seeing Dr. Williams tomorrow. It’s been a rough ride. Today I got David Whitaker’s address to Helen and I can let him know just how the 4th floor staff goes out of their way to save people’s lives. I’m sure that my life was spared thanks to your staff and you and your doctor friend. Totally a team effort. I love you all and will never in my life forget what you have done for me and my family. Today I spent three hours with my granddaughters, thinking that just a week ago today I was knocking on heaven’s door. Today was a good October 9, 2014 day."

AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE!! by current employee

My husband normally goes to the VA Medical Center for everything but I put him on my insurance. He had back surgery Thursday 8/28. He said his experience at Porter campus same day surgery was AWESOME! While I can't remember everyone that took care of him they were excellent and very professional. Dr. Cochran is an excellent dr. I am proud to say I work for Norman Regional. They do take care of their patients and patient's family.

I had an outpatient procedure on August 4th. My experience was outstanding!! The facility was spotless and the staff was organized and attentive. Everyone sanitized their hands when they entered and left the room. The nurses, Lesa, Danna, Cindy, Jill and Dawn were excellent! Dr. Tom Connally answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. I would definitely would recommend Norman Regional Healthplex. I do wish they were BCBS Preferred.

A wonderful experience by Eva Williams

I did not even imagine that I would have the wonderful treatment from the kindest caretakers. My stay was short but the care was absolutely the best. Sandra, Sandy, Emily, and Nicole were outstanding and kind. There are many names I can not remember but not forgotten. The treatment from the time I entered the building was SUPER. I was waiting for a survey but never got one. The “Strive for 5” that Intgeris asks for is crazy because this was off the charts. Norman gets a 10+ from me. Thanks again to all the staff. Great Job....

Quality, that's what we are talking about. by Former Patient

I am a (Person with Diabetes) PWD and have been a volunteer, advocate and patient of NRH for over 30 years. In other words as a diabetic I have considerable experience and some knowledge as a basis to share the following with you. Tonight I attended our diabetes support group meeting where the topic was ‘Family Involvement, How to be Prepared for the Unexpected.’ The focus was toward the diabetics family support helpers usually a spouse. The presenter, organizer and leader of our Pumpers Support group was Susan Pacific, RD/LD CDE from your Diabetes Education Center. Let me tell you in all these years I have never attended a better, more organized, more helpful event than the one tonight. It was simply outstanding, really helpful, and worth the effort to bring to your attention. Quality, that's what we are talking about. We learned from each other and we learned from Susan. Thanks so much for the 'Center' and such wonderful staff like Susan.
