Building for the Future
The Norman Regional HealthPlex project at Norman Regional is a direct reflection of the growth in services that Norman Regional has experienced over the past several years. The anticipated completion of the HealthPlex is Summer, 2009. Groups of Foundation donors had the opportunity to take hard hat tours of the HealthPlex and see first-hand how construction was progressing for a new era in regional healthcare.
The new hospital, located on Interstate 35 and Tecumseh Road, will combine the latest health technology with easy convenience off I-35. The HealthPlex campus will be home to Heart & Vascular, Women’s & Children’s, and Orthopedic & Spine services. Kathleen Drummond, Vice President, Community and System Support Services states, "The new facility provides our patients, their families and visitors a new experience in health care. We have chosen building materials, colors, fabrics and innovative design to create an environment that promotes healing and comfort."

Pursing a Career as a Health Professional
Maria is an administrative assistant at Norman Regional Health System. She loves working at Norman Regional and wants to advance her career possibilities in our health system. So she decided to go back to college–even though she works full-time, out of necessity, because she is also a single mom raising her small children. In her scholarship application letter to the Foundation’s scholarship Committee, she wrote, "After I graduate as a nurse I want to continue my employment as an RN with Norman Regional."
The Norman Regional Health Foundation annually awards scholarships to students who want to begin or advance their education in healthcare. "We want the best and brightest health professionals at Norman Regional, and the scholarship program gives the Foundation the opportunity to support individuals like Maria who want to give back to Norman Regional," states Marilyn M. Geiger, CPA, Executive Director of Norman Regional Health Foundation.
Recently, Norman Regional Health System was ranked as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare Magazine. Donations like yours make a difference to our employees and community members pursing careers in the healthcare profession.

Zoom...Zoom...Zoom Vaccinations
Each year, the Foundation gives back to our communities by funding vaccinations for influenza. The Drive-Thru Flu shot clinic is an effective strategy to vaccinate large numbers of individuals. In November, 2008 more than 1,500 vaccinations were administered for the Moore and Norman Drive-Thru Flu shot clinics. In addition, 100 vaccinations were given to the Blanchard Family Medical Clinic.
The Center for Disease Control reports that much of the illness and death caused by influenza can be prevented with annual flu vaccines. High-risk groups are people 65 years of age and older and people of any age with chronic diseases of the heart, lung or kidneys or those that have diabetes or compromised immune systems. The high-risk group should receive the flu vaccine from mid October to November.
Donations like yours keep our communities healthy.
