If you are tired of spending your Saturday mornings on the couch, grab your tennis shoes and get ready to pound the pavement with others just like you!
This Saturday the City of Norman Parks and Recreation and the Healthy Community Coalition will be hosting a First Time 5K Wellness Walk. The walk is free and open to anyone who is ready to get up and get moving. The walk is intended to raise public awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
“This is a great opportunity for novice or seasoned walkers alike to get out, get moving at their own pace, meet other walkers and learn about the various walking areas in Norman,” said Lindy Beswick, coordinator of Community Health and Wellness for Norman Regional Health System. “According to a recent survey, 21 percent of Norman residents aren’t physical active outside of work, so it’s important for people to find ways to fit exercise into their day. This event is the perfect way to fit a little exercise and socialization into a Saturday.”
All walking styles are allowed in the non-competitive, non-timed event. The walk will be held at Andrews Park, located at 201 West Daws in Norman. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. The course is smoothly paved, has little elevation gain or loss and is stroller friendly. It’s the perfect time and place to get motivated to move for first time walkers or for fitness fanatics!
Meet at the Andrews Park Building this Saturday, June 13th at 8:30 a.m. to get the morning started and to register for free prizes!
