Many of us from time to time have experienced nausea, abdominal pain and a rapid heart rate. What you might not know is these symptoms can indicate a dangerous underlying medical condition known as an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), a weakening or bulging of the main artery in the abdomen.
The risk of developing AAA increases with age, usually affecting people over 50 and this condition is more common in men than women. Other risks include the use of tobacco and high blood pressure. In many cases, patients have no symptoms, though the most common one is pain in the abdomen, back or chest. When left untreated an abdominal aortic aneurysm can be life-threatening and require surgical intervention to repair the weakened artery.
