Norman Regional Health System goes live with new integrated information system
Norman Regional Health System has converted to Meditech, a system that allows hospital physicians and clinical staff faster, consistent access to patients’ information as it relates to their care. All patients’ files can be securely accessed by approved personnel throughout the health system.
“Patient safety and confidentiality were key considerations when choosing and implementing the computer software,” stated Ed Fisher, NRHS Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “At the end of the day, we want to have the best tools in place for our clinicians, nurses and physicians to practice the best medicine possible.”
The health system has been preparing for the change to Meditech software for more than a year. During this time, the information technology department and team leaders provided training for 3,500 people. NRHS implemented Meditech’s full suite of applications, including all clinical and financial software, scheduling, registration, laboratory, radiology, and several other applications. NRHS is the only health system currently using every application that Meditech offers at this release level.
“I’ve participated in these types of implementations before and this has been the best experience so far. I salute the employees who helped make the change to Meditech such a success,” said David Whitaker, NRHS President & Chief Executive Officer. “As the health system continues to grow, we are constantly looking at how we can serve our patients more effectively and efficiently.”
Meditech aids clinicians in their day to day operations by letting them document patient’s care in a centralized electronic medical record. Physicians and health care providers have secured access to a patient’s medical history, test results, vital statistics, medications and allergies.
“We have excellent physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists and health care providers in this institution. Now we’ve added an electronic record built to our specifications that match this degree of excellence” stated Brian Yeaman MD, NRHS Director of Physician Informatics. “Change is hard for everyone, but our employees see the benefits for patients and the overall delivery of care.”
NRHS patients can rest assured knowing that the new electronic medical record system will provide caregivers with:
• Fast and easier access to medical information.
Patient’s information; including their history, prescriptions, tests results, and allergies; is entered into Meditech only once. Then, with the click of a button, a patient’s medical history can be viewed by authorized caregivers, providing immediate and easy access to patient information.
• One source of patient information.
If a patient treated at Norman Regional Hospital is at the HealthPlex for a follow-up visit, documentation from their hospital stay is easily available to the caregiver because the information is in a single, shared electronic medical record.
• Test results are delivered quicker.
There is no waiting for test results to travel from the lab to the caregiver’s office or from one caregiver to another. Caregivers also have the ability to review a history of a patient’s test results, regardless of who ordered them.
• Patient’s information is extra protected.
A patient’s medical record is protected by security measures, including a feature that monitors who has accessed each patient record. Caregivers and personnel are granted access only to the information they need to perform their job.
Meditech is a leading software vender in the health care informatics industry for 38 years. They provide integrated software solutions that meet the information needs of healthcare organizations nationwide, including; hospitals; ambulatory care centers; physician’s offices; long term care and behavioral health facilities; and home health organizations.
