New Chest Pain Center Dedicated to Treating Heart Disease

NORMAN - Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Oklahoma, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In hopes of combating this chronic disease, Norman Regional has opened the Chest Pain Center at the new HealthPlex specialty hospital.

The HealthPlex’s Chest Pain Center will be primarily available for the care and diagnosis of patients with chest pain. The Chest Pain Center is a ten bed, emergency unit with one triage room.

This specialized emergency treatment area will offer state-of-the-art emergency cardiac care. Once stabilized, patients can then be admitted to hospital’s inpatient Heart and Vascular Institute for further treatment, surgery and ongoing care and rehabilitation.

“Norman Regional has a wonderful team of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and highly trained nurses and medical staff. We are proud to offer them a new facility in which to treat patients,” said Daryle Voss, Chief Administrative Officer of the HealthPlex.

This Chest Pain Center will be capable of assessing and triage of most emergencies, however, the HealthPlex hospital is primarily designed to treat inpatient orthopedic and heart issues, and also providing women’s and children’s services.

All trauma patients will continue to be transported to Norman Regional Hospital’s 44-bed Emergency Room on Porter Avenue. Though, when a patient is in labor or having chest pain, the HealthPlex hospital would be the preferred location. If a patient is transported via EMSStat, paramedics are aware of what location is ideal for each patient.
