Norman Regional Health System May 10 Storm Report
On May 10, 2010 Norman Regional Health System, in response to National Weather Service advisories, called a Code Black for all three hospital campuses (at 1:32 p.m.) - Norman Regional Hospital, Moore Medical Center and HealthPlex. Code Black consists of alerting employees that there is a significant risk for damaging weather.
Below is a breakdown of patients treated immediately following the storms throughout Norman Regional Health System.
- Approximately 70 patients with storm related injuries were treated at Norman Regional Hospital and Moore Medical Center. The HealthPlex hospital did not treat patients for storm-related injuries.
- 8 patients were treated for traumatic injuries.
- 5 patients were admitted for further treatment and remain, at this time, in fair condition. Fair condition is described as: “vital signs are stable and within normal limits, patient is uncomfortable, indicators are favorable.”
- 3 patients were transferred to OU Medical Center.
- 62 patients or “walking wounded” were treated and released.
- Approximately 100 employees reported to the Health System’s Incident Command Post for duty.
- NRHS is also currently working with the Red Cross to help supply food for a shelter currently being organized for the Norman area.
