Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
The Oklahoma Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals selected Randy Laffoon the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser for 2007, at an awards luncheon in conjunction with National Day of Philanthropy.
“Randy is a non-profit manager’s dream board member! He is highly motivated, energetic, optimistic and even-tempered,” stated Marilyn Geiger, Executive Director of Norman Regional Health Foundation. “He always says the project can be done.”
Laffoon served as Capital Campaign Chair for Norman Regional Health Foundation’s Highway to Health campaign in support of the Health System’s HealthPlex campus expansion. This multi-million dollar campaign is helping pay for expansion of the Norman Regional Health System campus at I-35 and Tecumseh Road, and renovation of the existing hospital on Porter Avenue. The community goal of the Highway to Health capital campaign was set at $3,000,000. The $3 million mark was passed just 14 months into the campaign. At 18 months the formal solicitation ended, with the total raised being well over 10 percent of the goal.
Laffoon volunteered because he saw the need, and felt confident Norman community members would also believe in the vision of excellent healthcare, right at home.
“Every community deserves quality healthcare. We want to keep up with the city’s growth by providing facilities that attract top notch physicians and using the most advanced technology available,” said Laffoon.
In addition to fundraising, Laffoon was, until recently, the owner of Norman Cellular. He coaches soccer and baseball. He serves on the board of not-for-profits such as the Chamber of Commerce, Norman Rotary Club, United Way, Norman Public School Foundation, Norman Youth Soccer Association, and others.
