NORMAN - Dr. Tom Shi Connally was recently accepted as a member by the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) making him the only surgeon in Oklahoma to currently hold this distinction.
Membership with the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons is limited to surgeons who are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), who have a major interest and devote significant portions of their practice to endocrine surgery, and who are also certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
"The AAES is comprised of devoted surgeons such as Dr. Connally, who have committed substantial portions of their professional interest and effort to surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and endocrine pancreas glands. We are proud to have Dr. Connally among our ranks,” said Gerard M. Doherty, MD, President of AAES.
Connally treats thyroid and parathyroid disease. He performs parathyroid surgeries minimally invasively and under local anesthesia. Practicing at the Norman Regional HealthPlex hospital, Dr. Connally is able to test a patient’s blood in the operating room. This allows results to be seen in as quickly as eight minutes as opposed to the traditional 30 minutes.
“Benefits I can offer to patients include a less invasive procedure that uses less anesthesia, lets patients go home quicker and leaves a smaller scar,” Dr. Connally said.
Dr. Connally takes a team approach to a patient’s care utilizing support from local endocrinologists, radiology and pathology. He is in practice with Oklahoma Surgical Associates a group of surgeons that performs surgeries at Norman Regional Hospital and the Norman Regional HealthPlex. Dr. Connally graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
His office is located at 500 E. Robinson, Suite 2300 in Norman.
