Free clinic for school athletes with sports injuries

Norman - Norman Regional Health System and the Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute (OSOI) are hosting a Sports Injury Clinic from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. every Saturday morning September 6th through November 8th at the Norman Regional HealthPlex Urgent Care Center, Interstate-35 and Tecumseh Road.

Norman Regional Health System and Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute are the official sports medicine providers for Norman High School, Norman North High School and Southmoore High School. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to this free clinic. An orthopedic physician will evaluate and recommend treatment for sports related injuries. This does not include x-rays or orthopedic supplies, if necessary.

“OSOI is proud to partner with Norman Regional Health System to provide this service to the Norman, Moore, and surrounding communities. It’s a great opportunity to get athletes in, get them evaluated, and start treatment quickly. The sooner we can start treating injured athletes, the quicker we can get them back to their game,” said Dr. Theodore Boehm, Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute Sports Medicine Physician.

According to Safe Kids USA, more than 3.5 million children under the age of 14 seek medical attention for a sports related injury each year. There are many positive benefits to children playing sports, but it’s important to remember children are also vulnerable to sports injuries. Immature bones, insufficient rest after an injury and poor training contribute to these injuries.
