Mayor Cindy Rosenthal is inviting Normanites of all ages to join her on monthly community walks. The Walk ‘N Talk with the Mayor series highlights different walking areas around Norman each month.
The walks throughout the series are family-friendly, free and open to the public. The first walk of the 2009 series will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28. Walkers will meet at the Sam Noble Museum parking lot, located at 2401 Chautauqua Ave. Please note, in case of rain or snow, this event will be cancelled.
The stroller, family and pet-friendly walk will cover approximately two miles. Walkers of all fitness levels are invited. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome, but owners are asked to be considerate of others and clean up after their pets.
“The Walk ‘N Talk series is a great way to learn about various areas to walk in Norman,” said Lindy Beswick, coordinator of community health and wellness for Norman Regional Health System. “The walks are also a good way to meet new people, learn about what is going on in your community, and talk with the Mayor about issues important to you – all while getting exercise!”
Healthy Community has partnered with Mayor Rosenthal to schedule the walks. The series was launched in 2008 and included 10 community walks.
Healthy Community, sponsored by Norman Regional Health System, is a growing team of businesses, individuals, organizations, and health care professionals working towards creating a healthier Norman by focusing on four nationally recognized health concerns: hypertension, obesity/overweight, smoking and lack of physical exercise.
