Norman Regional is a not-for-profit health system that takes its mission to provide quality care for its community to heart. We want to improve the health for not only our patients, but also those that may never walk through our hospital or clinic doors. In 2011, Norman Regional’s total contribution to the community totaled more than $1.86 million dollars and it had more than 296,000 community encounters. Programs NRHS offers the community include: Hearts for Hearing, Senior Vitality, Home Run Van, Public Assistance Enrollment, Healthy Community, Eden Clinic, Inpatient Tobacco Counseling, Give Kids a Smile Dental Clinic and much more. Norman Regional also provides clinical rotations for the next generation of health professionals. Other ways Norman Regional supports its community includes financial and in-kind donations, community building activities such as workforce enhancement and leadership participation in 36 different community boards and volunteer activities. The Health System could not carry out its important work without the support of our volunteers. The Norman Regional and Moore Medical Center auxiliaries not only assist the hospitals by providing a volunteer workforce, they also donate money and operate businesses with the hospitals.
The Norman Regional Auxiliary celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011 with a month-long special celebration. The Auxiliary’s first project was hand-sewing towels and draw sheets. Since the 1950s the Auxiliary has grown tremendously and now supports 37 different areas of the Health System and even runs seven independent businesses!
In total at the Porter campus and the HealthPlex, there are 364 volunteers. This number includes adults, college volunteers and teens. In 2011, these volunteers worked 51,808 hours – saving the Health System more than $600,000 in salaries and benefits! Also in 2011, the NRH Auxiliary donated $131,435 for equipment and building improvements. Part of that went towards the remodeling of the Northeast Tower at Norman Regional Hospital. Another $226,218 was donated to the Health System for salaries, benefits and worker’s compensation.
The NRH Auxiliary operates gift shops on both the Porter and HealthPlex campuses, Daily Grind coffee shops on both campuses, the Nu-N-Nuf store and the Scrub Shop which sells scrubs and other medical apparel. The Moore Medical Center Auxiliary operates the gift shop at Moore Medical Center.
