Wound Information

Wounds are considered chronic if they have not significantly improved in four weeks or completely healed in eight weeks.  Types of wounds treated at the Wound Care Center are:

  • Diabetic
  • Ischemic
  • Venous stasis
  • Pressure
  • Collagen vascular
  • Other wounds that resist healing
  • Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement (TCOM)

Norman Regional’s Wound Care Center provides Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement or TCOM testing which is a noninvasive tool to aid in vascular assessments to help predict healing potential and response to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  TCOMs are also useful for:

  • Determining successful amputation levels
  • Evaluate revascularization procedures
  • Assess severity and progression of  peripheral vascular disease
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

In the Fall of 2008, the Norman Regional Wound Care Center will implement HBOT as part of its comprehensive wound care program. HBOT is a procedure in which patients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized clear chamber. HBOT is used to treat many medical conditions including:

  • Diabetic wounds
  • Radiation tissue damage (Osteonecrosis)
  • Osteomyelitis (Refractory)
  • Skin grafts and flaps (Compromised)
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Thermal burns
  • Crush injury, compartment syndrome and other acute traumatic ischemias
  • Clostridial myonecrosis (Gas Gangrene)
  • Actinomycosis
  • Air or gas embolism
  • Carbon Monoxide poisoning
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Decompression sickness
  • Severe anemia
  • Cyanide poisoning

The positive effects of HBOT include:

  • Promotion of new blood vessels
  • Decreased swelling and inflammation
  • Deactivates toxins
  • Increases the body’s ability to fight infection
  • Clears out toxins and metabolic waste products
  • Improves the rate of healing

We are located at 3400 W. Tecumseh Road, Suite 105 in Norman, Oklahoma.
