What is Anxiety?

We all feel some anxiety at times. In life, situations that lead to the symptoms of anxiety are common (i.e. change in job, final exams, move to a new city). For many, these mild anxieties seem to energize or help increase personal focus.

However, symptoms of anxiety can become so severe that the individual is unable to get through the day. If your work, home life and happiness are negatively affected by anxiety, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder, a medical condition that often requires professional intervention.

Anxiety Questionnaire:

Answer yes if the symptom has been present for at least two weeks in the last six months.

  • Trembling or feeling shaky
  • Muscle tension or aches
  • Restlessness
  • Easily becoming tired
  • Smothering sensation
  • Accelerated heart rate
  • Sweating or clammy skin
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness or lightheaded
  • Nausea or diarrhea
  • Flushed skin or chills

  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Feeling “on edge”
  • Easily startled
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Inability to fall or stay asleep

A score of six or more may be significant.

If your score on the test was six or above, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Remember, this test is not designed as a diagnostic or treatment tool. A score of six or above simply indicates a need for an evaluation by a qualified professional.
