Moore Medical Emergency Department — Our Commitment to You

As members of the Norman Regional Emergency Services Team, Moore Medical Center's Emergency Department is dedicated to working together to provide excellent patient care with quality patient caring. In fact, our present length of stay is less then two hours for treated and released patients.

We will listen to and communicate with our patients, their families, visitors, and each other.

Services

  • Moore Medical Center's Emergency Department has 11 beds, 11 Cardiac Monitored Rooms and an Ultrasound.
  • We are a Level III Trauma Center.
  • We provide comprehensive care delivered by teams of board certified Emergency Physicians, Trauma and Auto Care skilled registered nurses, ED Techs, secretaries.
  • All RN’s are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and PAL’S (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified.
  • Our average patient length of stay is competitive nationally. Our present length of stay is less then two hours for treated and released patients.
  • We are a Certified Stroke Center.
  • We have been nationally recognized by VHA Quality for our initiatives in Cardiac Care, ED Throughput, and Pneumonia.
  • Recognized by National Patient Safety Congress for Innovative Initiatives leading to positive outcomes for our patients.

Our staff is dedicated to providing patients with excellent and compassionate care, and providing that care as quickly as possible. Moore Medical Center’s Emergency Department staff is both highly-credentialled and encouraged to continue learning about the latest in skills and technology.

What makes Moore Medical Center unique:

  • All emergency physicians are Board Certified/Board Eligible.
  • Physicians support our teams by creating an atmosphere of collegiality and continuous learning.
  • During peak volume hours we have five teams of physicians and staff working to see patients quickly and provide treatment in a safe timely manner.

  • All registered nurses have an associate degree or bachelor’s degree.
  • With the demand for emergency services growing at a rapid pace, the ED continues to hire and retain the very best nurses.
  • Our staff is carefully selected through a peer interview process. 
  • All registered nurses are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and PAL’S (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified with our Trauma Nurses, TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certified. CEN (Certified Emergency Nursing) status is encouraged and supported.

Patient Experience: Your Emergency Visit Guide

What can I expect when I arrive?
Every patient is greeted by a receptionist and a registrar who will enter brief patient information into our treatment process.

A triage nurse will conduct a short assessment in private with each patient. Patients are taken quickly to a treatment room where a physician evaluates and treats each patient appropriately. Our goal is to “expedite” the process of getting each patient to a physician as quickly as possible.

The triage nurse will determine if you have an illness or minor injury that can be treated by our fast track physicians and staff.

What should I bring with me?

  • A list of all medications, vitamins, dietary supplements, over-the-counter medications you are currently taking.
  • The names of your physician(s).
  • A list of your allergies to medications, and substances such as latex, iodine, and food allergies.

How long will I wait?
Average wait times from ‘triage to doctor’ in Moore Medical Center’s ED are very short; usually within 15 to 20 minutes. This is somewhat dependent upon the volume of patients seeking care at the time of your visit. To minimize wait times, we have five teams of physicians and nurses working at our high volume times of the day.

During your visit, wait times for lab, x-ray, and other diagnostic tests will be monitored by your nurse and he or she will keep you informed of the progress.

What if I have to be admitted?
If your condition requires you to be admitted, we will locate an inpatient bed for you as quickly as bed availability allows.

Please remember that patients with severe illnesses and injuries must be treated very quickly. This may mean a severely ill or injured adult or child will be taken to a treatment area ahead of others waiting. We ask for your patience and understanding, and please remember ALL patients will be treated as quickly as possible.

Future Plans

We are in the process of building a new Chest Pain Center Emergency Department at our HealthPlex location. This 10-bed area will be designed to support the new specialty hospital on Interstate 35 and Tecumseh.

It will provide care for our patients in need of:

  • Cardiology Services - heart attack, angina, irregular heart rhythm
  • Orthopedics - falls, sprains, strains, fractures
  • Women’s and Children’s Services - pregnancy, labor and delivery, pediatric admissions, gynecological surgery
