We ask our college volunteers to commit to two semesters of volunteering with the Auxiliary.
A few of the volunteer areas include:
Diagnostic Imaging – Volunteers assist technicians with preparation for their next patient and film retrieval.
Emergency Department – Volunteers assist with families of patients in the ED, providing pillows, blankets, water and other comfort items. They also maintain an adequate number of wheelchairs for the department, clean and prepare rooms and assist with errands.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit – Volunteers restock supplies, escort families to waiting area, print EKG strips and assist with other tasks.
Same Day Surgery – Volunteers escort patients/families to rooms, assist families in waiting area, take specimens to lab, make charts and help with other duties.
Wound Care – Volunteers prepare daily patient charts, call patients to confirm appointments, assist with inventory and accompany nursing staff in patient appointments learning about wound dressings and the hyperbaric wound care chambers.

Upon completion of an application, potential volunteers will be required to complete the following:
Orientation – Each prospective volunteer is required to attend a three-hour orientation session. Orientations are held 3 times a year – typically on the Tuesday of the week prior to classes starting at the University of Oklahoma (early January, mid May, mid August), but dates vary.
Tuberculin or TB Skin Test – A mandatory TB test must be completed prior to orientation at the volunteer’s expense. A second TB test is provided by the hospital during orientation.
Immunization Screening – Proof of vaccination for measles ,mumps, rubella and varicella is a requirement.
Background Check – A background check will be done on all volunteers prior to receiving volunteer placement.
Dues – The Norman Regional Auxiliary asks its volunteers for a yearly membership of $5.
Uniforms – Uniforms are mandatory for all volunteers. They include a navy blue uniform top, white slacks and white soft-soled shoes. The cost of the uniform top is $10. You may wear your own white pants (full-length, no jeans), or purchase white scrub pants from The Scrub Shop for $13.
