Teen Hero Opportunities

The Teen Hero Volunteer Program is a service opportunity at Norman Regional Health System for youth ages 14 to 18. Participants are selected through an application process.

Teen Hero Benefits

Benefits of the Teen Hero Volunteer Program include:

  1. Develop an understanding of service as role models.
  2. Become familiar with the hospital environment.
  3. Chance to participate in fund-raisers that benefit the community.
  4. Helps develop a greater understanding of health and wellness.

Teen Hero Application

The Norman Regional Teen Hero Volunteer Program accepts applications year-round. Orientations are held twice a year: once in the fall and once before summer. The application deadline for summer orientation is April 15 and the deadline for fall orientation is August 15. Applicants will be asked to participate in a group interview session. A limited number of applicants will be selected to participate in the program. Once selected, applicants will be required to complete the following:

Orientation – Each volunteer is required to attend a two-hour orientation session with a parent or guardian. A follow-up placement interview is scheduled soon after.

Tuberculin or TB Skin Test – Mandatory for all volunteers and given free of charge annually at the hospital.

Immunization Records – Proof of vaccination for rubella and mumps are a requirement.

Annual Education – Annual education is once a year and attendance is required by all active volunteers.

Dues –Teen Heroes pay a yearly membership of $1.

Uniforms – Uniforms are mandatory for all volunteers. The cost of the uniform top is $10.

To Apply

  1. Applicants must be age 14 to 18 at the date of orientation.
  2. Complete the application.
  3. Submit a 100-word essay: “Why I would like to be a Teen Hero Volunteer."
  4. Submit a letter of reference from a school or church official.
