NORMAN - Congratulations to Carol Polk for being awarded the 2017 Volunteer with Spirit for Norman Regional Health System!

The Hospital Volunteers of Oklahoma recently recognized 14 volunteers from across the state as the 2017 "Volunteers with Spirit." The award was given to hospital volunteers who exemplify the spirit of service and have a passion for the work they do for their organizations.

Carol has been volunteering at NRHS for 19 years, and has served in numerous positions on the Auxiliary Board of Directors, including as president.

"I just love doing it. It keeps me out of trouble," Carol said.

When Carol found out she was this year’s recipient of the award she said she was shocked.

"Why me? There’s lots of volunteers who do as much or more probably than I do. Although, I’ve worked in so many areas I probably couldn’t even name them all, at the hospital and at the HealthPlex," Carol said. "I was excited. It’s kind of flattering. It’s nice they thought I should be nominated."

Wendy Fiebrich, director of volunteer services, knew Carol would be a great volunteer to choose for the award.

"For 19 years Carol has greeted, escorted, helped visitors and patients that enter the building. She is always here a minimum of two days a week, but often three, four and even five. Her incredible kind spirit and dedication is why she is deserving of this award," Wendy wrote in the Volunteers with Spirit submission form.

Carol said it’d be hard to say her favorite part of volunteering at Norman Regional, but she enjoys helping people find their way around the hospital and getting to know the other volunteers and employees.

"It’s a really nice, uplifting atmosphere here. I think all the volunteers try to do their bid about making Norman Regional a good place to work and volunteer," she added.
