Each year the Norman Transcript turns to the community to vote on the Readers' Choice Awards for best from places to eat and best entertainment to the best healthcare system, physicians and more.
According to the Transcript’s website, each category has the top 5 nominations as nominated by the community. Nominations were submitted until February 7. At that time, the top 5 nominees were calculated and put in the Transcript’s voting ballot. Then the winners were announced Sunday, March 5.
Norman Regional Health System won the category of “Best Hospital/Healthcare Facility.” Norman Regional is a multi-campus system that provides for the health and wellness needs of our regional communities throughout south central Oklahoma. Norman Regional is transforming healthcare in the communities it serves with the Inspire Health plan. Inspire Health has five core components: the HealthPlex acute care expansion, Ambulatory Pavilion and Cancer Center, a new Freestanding Emergency Department+ (plus ancillary services) in southeast Norman, a Behavioral Health Center and the revitalization of the historical Norman Regional Hospital (Porter) campus into a health and wellness destination, the Porter Health Village. These projects are tentatively set to be completed by 2024.
Norman Regional’s, Dr. Jeffrey Crook and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Donnell Hammons were both winners in the Norman Transcript 2023 Readers’ Choice awards with multiple others being nominated.
For the category of “Best Cardiologist,” Dr. Jeffrey Crook won. Dr. Crook is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine at Norman Regional HealthPlex. He attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Medicine and had a fellowship with the Department of Cardiovascular Disease at that same institution.
Norman Regional Cardiologists, Dr. Muhammad Anwar, Dr. Archana Gautam and Dr. Katherine Hayes were all nominees in the category “Best Cardiologist.”
For the category of “Best Physician Assistant,” Donnell Hammons, APRN won. Donnell is an advanced practice registered nurse at Internal Medicine - Doctors Park. She specializes in adult care, management of chronic conditions, preventive medicine, sick care and wellness visits. Donnell won The Norman Transcript's “Best Physician Assistant” Readers' Choice Awards in the 2022.
Norman Regional’s Storm Eagle, APRN-CNP was a nominee in the category of “Best Physician Assistant.”
For the category of “Best Nurse (from what practice)” Patti Guthrie, RN at Norman Regional HealthPlex Nursery was a nominee.
In the category of “Best Fitness Center/Gym,” Norman Regional Health Club was nominated. For “Best Physical Therapy,” Norman Regional Physical Therapy was a nominee. For “Best Urgent Care Facility” Norman Regional’s Walk-In Clinics were nominated.
