Mohammad Azam Farukhi, MD, is the newest addition to the team at Norman Regional Health System’s Journey Clinic.

Dr. Farukhi is joining Lana Nelson, DO, as a bariatric surgeon at the clinic. He will also perform general surgery. He moved to Oklahoma from San Antonio, Texas with his wife and newborn son.

Dr. Farukhi received his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (HSC) in Lubbock, Texas. He completed his residency at Texas Tech University HSC in El Paso, Texas and completed his fellowship at BMI (Bariatric Medical Institute) of Texas in San Antonio.

Dr. Farukhi said he chose to become a physician because he always thought it was a noble profession.

“There are other professions that are equally amazing, but I just love the combination of clinical medicine, working with my hands and interacting with people,” he said.

Dr. Farukhi said he hopes to continue to grow the bariatric program at Norman Regional, bring in new procedures and establish himself as a reliable surgeon in the community.

As a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Farukhi wants his patients to know that obesity isn’t a voluntary choice, and that it takes a lot of courage to undergo a life changing surgery.

Aside from medicine, Dr. Farukhi enjoys the outdoors, skiing, and drawing/animating. His newest hobby is making new stories for his son, which he said he hopes to publish into a series of children books.

Dr. Farukhi’s office is located at 3400 W. Tecumseh Rd., Suite 105. Call 405-515-2049 to schedule an appointment or visit www.JourneyClinic.com to learn more about what the clinic has to offer.
