Nurses gave a Norman couple an anniversary to remember while both were recovering as patients at Norman Regional Hospital.

Arthur and Vera Armstrong were both hospitalized in the Progressive Care Unit. Their daughter Lou Ann Gibson said her father fell, and while her mother was dialing 911, she also fell.

When Norman Regional employees heard it was the couple’s anniversary on Jan. 22, they wanted to help them celebrate. The team wanted to congratulate the couple and celebrate their more than six decades of love.

“This is so sweet, I can’t get over it,” Vera Armstrong said.

The nurses ordered a cake, balloons, and decorated the couple’s rooms. Chaplain Mike Bumgarner said a special blessing and Chief Nursing Officer, Brittni McGill served them slices of anniversary cake.

Director Paul Jones and Manager Lindsay Cavin were instrumental in coordinating multiple departments to assist in the celebration including Auxiliary, Pastoral Care, Food and Nutrition Services, and Media Services.

“The nurses made this a good experience and memory for my parents,” Gibson said.
