Tips on Staying Well Now and Throughout the Year
Over the last few weeks, we’ve all seen the news reports about coronavirus (COVID-19) and witnessed the empty shelves where sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer and soap were once stocked.
No matter the illness or time of year, here are a few ways to prevent the spread of infection from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Stay home if you are sick and keep your kids at home if they are sick.
- Avoid close contact with others who are sick.
- Wash your hands with soap and water often (for at least 20 seconds). Use hand sanitizer (60 percent alcohol or more) if you do not have access to soap and water. Make sure to clean your hands before eating, after going to the bathroom, and after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose.
- Use a tissue to cover your sneeze or cough. Or, sneeze or cough into your upper sleeve if you do not have a tissue. Immediately wash or sanitize your hands.
- Use a household disinfectant spray or wipe to clean and disinfect high-touch objects and surfaces often (i.e. phones, computers/keyboards, doorknobs, light switches, desks, tables, bathroom surfaces).
Other ways to stay healthy throughout the year:
- Get plenty of sleep
- Keep your stress level down
- Make healthy food choices
- Get your flu vaccine every year
