Where the Healing Begins

Utilizing a study called the Patient Empathy Project, this workshop will focus on fears people have about being a patient in the hospital or going to the doctor. Understanding these fears, and being able to demonstrate empathy for the patient by looking for ways to minimize their anxiety, will ultimately maximize your effectiveness as a healthcare provider! Sometimes, that "difficult" patient or family member is really just scared. They may be frightened by how they are going to manage when they get home. They may even be scared they won't make it home. The patient or family may equate being in the hospital with negative feelings from previous experiences. Evidence based practice indicates that there are specific fears that can render a patient or their loved one less able to communicate appropriately. Understanding these fears and allowing the patient to express them can make a huge difference in maximizing your effectiveness in caring for them.
