I am writing not only as an employee, but as a mom. This past Friday I received the scare of my life when my 3 year old son fell and hit his head, causing a gash in the back of his head which I knew would require stitches, at least. We rushed to the ER on Porter where we were attended to very quickly and expertly. From the time we checked in everyone was polite and very nice and helpful in keeping my rambunctious 3 year old occupied. He was entertained and distracted by everyone trying to keep him talking and not allowing him (or myself) to think too much on his injury. Dr. Wilson was very good at explaining what he was doing and why before I even had a chance to think of the question. In about an hour we were already on our way home with the four staples Dr. Wilson gave him. As a parent, the last thing you want is for your child to hurt in any way, but I can say I was greatly reassured by the care we received while we were here. I wanted to extend my gratitude to everyone we came in contact with and helped my family. Thank you

I am writing because I have recently been a patient at Norman Regional Hospital. I am a dietary vegan and I am beyond happy with the efforts your Nutritional Services department made to ensure my meals were not only satisfying, but also nutritionally sound. I am beyond thrilled to be able to say that the hospital in which I stayed not only comprehended the concept of veganism, but also went out of its way to ensure I was fed well. Also so many of the individuals on the ward I was on went out of their way to be friendly and personable, I regret that I was only able to thank a few of them directly. Thank you for everything.

I worry very well and ever since I found out my wife Jennifer and I were going to have a baby daughter I have been concerned about the many possible complications which could occur. During my 33 years as a medic I have had many difficult experiences dealing with this medical issue. Medics are never called or invited to births where everything goes well. Tuesday evening almost everything I was worrying about happened. Jennifer had a very rapid, almost explosive labor and the baby developed serious distress. There is no doubt without the excellent care that was given; the outcome would have been tragic. Over the years I have had significant training in how to deal with OB emergencies and this skill demonstrated by everyone involved exceeded anything which would be considered “textbook.” The professional, highly trained staff not only provided excellent medical care but also great communication and compassion to both my wife and me. While on the outside I seemed to be somewhat calm, I was stressing out beyond words on the inside. The calm, professional, and compassionate manner that care was provided was very reassuring. Most of the staff had no idea who I was, so I am confident this is how they do their job everyday and it wasn't any different for us. The experience and skill of Dr. Bethel as well as all of the staff involved without any doubt saved our daughter's life. Everyone who we have had any contact with since we arrived has demonstrated the compassionate patient focus NRHS has always strived for. As we move toward re-igniting that culture the entire Women's and Children's department will be a great example for us to strive for. Our daughter still has one medical issue and Dr. Wilson and the nursery staff have again demonstrated all of the qualities I have described above in providing her excellent care. Dr. Mulligan who provided all of the prenatal care has also been excellent during Jennifer's post-op care. Jennifer and I are going to make a contribution to the NRH Foundation through the Guardian Angel Program naming the entire Women's and Children's department.

My mother-in-law was transferred to Norman Regional’s ICU a few days ago from another hospital. This has been a very difficult experience for my husband and his mother's husband of 26 years. Having more than 20 years of experience in the aging and medical field, I am often hard to please when family members are hospitalized. Upon arrival at Norman ICU we were constantly kept aware of Mrs. Bare's condition. Something we had not experienced to date from other facilities. Drs. Ryan and Eagle were outstanding as well as ICU nurses Dovie and Cindy. More than the outstanding service that Mrs. Bare and our family received, Dr. Eagle and nurse Dovie went the extra mile to comb out Mrs. Bare's ratted hair, which was mangled by too many IV tubes. They felt that even in this situation, Mrs. Bare needed dignity in her last hours. When we made the very difficult decision to remove the vent, Dr. Eagle and nurse Cindy were wonderful and the charge nurse of ICU allowed us in for a few moments when it was normally closed. Nurse Amber of palliative care called us right away when she was transferred down there and until her last moments this morning, nurse Jenny and others helped make her last hours on earth better. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! The Bare and Davidson family.
