My Miracle Baby.... by Tabitha Brown

On September 13th, 2008 I unexpectedly went into labor with my daughter at 27 weeks. The biggest surprise was that I didn't even know I was pregnant! On September 14th, 2008 I gave birth to a 2 pound, 12.9 ounce baby girl. She was born at a local hospital, and then rushed to Norman Regional. Through out her month-long stay her nurses and doctors not only were amazing with my daughter, but also with my son and I as we coped with the fact that we had a new member of the family. I was completely scared out of my mind and yet as excited as I had felt after learning I was pregnant with my son. It was such a tough and emotional time but they were so helpful and so sincerely sweet that it made the craziness bearable. I don't think I could thank every one of the nurses and doctors enough. Even if I told each of them thank you everyday for 20 years, I would look at my healthy baby girl and have to say it again and again. They gave me hope when everything seemed bleak, helped me bond with my baby, helped my son get used to the idea of being a big brother, and on top of everything kept my daughter safe and healthy until she could come home with a clean bill of health. I thank them everyday in my heart for the beautiful gift they gave me by taking care of my family. My daughter is now a healthy 15 month old that is only a few pounds behind her age group. And I know we owe it all to the staff in the NICU.

My sincere thanks for the excellent treatment I received in a hospital stay in the past two weeks. The staff not only responded to my needs, they treated me with love and dignity. Thanks to the entire team.

On Nov. 2 2006 I was induced for labor at Norman Regional. It was found after my water was broken that there were complications with my baby. Thanks to the fast actions of my obstetrician and the wonderful doctors and nurses at Norman Regional everything turned out okay. They had a crew of what seemed like 20 people waiting for my little angel to come out! Thanks to them, my baby was just fine. So thank you for your amazing actions on that day. Now I am expecting baby number two which will be born at the new HealthPlex in May! And I know that no matter what problems arise we will be in good hands!

In a few days my granddaughter will turn 13. This is because of the care she was given when she was born in your hospital. If not for you she would not have lived. On the day she was born the doctor cam into the room with tears in her eyes and told the family the hardest thing we had ever heard, that the baby would probably not live. They would do everything they could but the outlook was not good. If she lived for the next four days, she had a chance. Over this time every test came back bad. The virus was in her spine and then in her brain. No one could touch her because of the pain it would cause her. But you never gave up or gave us any reason to not believe in you and her. After the four days, things slowly turned around. This child is now in the 7th grade. She is very outgoing and has lots of friends. I hope this letter shows you that your job makes a big difference in people’s lives. Thank you from a grandmother who loves her granddaughters and thanks you everyday for this child’s life.

I wanted to take a moment to let you know what a wonderful group of nurses and nurse aids you have on 4North. My brother was admitted to your facility in September for pneumonia. After a long night in the ED, my brother was admitted to 4North. He was born with Cerebral Palsy and mental retardation and has many handicaps and special needs. He does not communicate well and it is always a guess as to what he may be feeling or needing. Each and every nurse and nurse aid took this in stride and was willing to help him anyway they could. They actually moved him three times on their floor to get him closer to the nurse's desk so that they could keep an eye on him, as he is quite fast when he wanted to get out of bed. I cannot emphasize how exceptional the staff was with him. They all take great pride in making sure he was cared for and that I knew at all times how he was doing. Please accept my sincere thanks and let each and every staff member know how appreciative I am for their service to my brother.
