Lunch and Learn
Moore Medical Center has begun hosting a Lunch and Learn Series, a free presentation for men and women during their lunch hour.
“We know working women and men don’t have a lot of time,” said Paula Price, Norman Regional Health System Director of Health Promotion and Community. “We wanted to offer them an easy and convenient way to learn about their health.”
Dr. Misty Hsieh presented “What Does Healthy Really Mean” at the first Lunch and Learn. She covered a variety of topics including; easy ways to eat healthy, how to maintain a healthy weight, the recommended amount of exercise and helpful tips to quit smoking.
Dr. Hsieh recommends getting your blood pressure checked every two years, ”One in three women have high blood pressure. Because there are usually no symptoms, high blood pressure is known as the silent killer,” stated Dr. Hsieh.
Dr. Hsieh also discussed the recommended screenings and immunizations for women, how to handle stress and what you need to know about yourself and your risk factors. Every participant received information packets including a coupon for a free cholesterol screening.
The next Lunch and Learn is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Moore Medical Center North Atrium. Dr. Scott Manatt will discuss what men need to know about preventative screenings, testing for prostate cancer and the latest information on treatment. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. One in six American men will be diagnosed with this disease. Free blood pressure screenings and a coupon for a free prostate specific antigen screening will be available at the luncheon. A light lunch will be served and seating is limited. Register today by calling Healthlink at 440-8802.
