On May 20, 2014, Norman Regional Health System broke ground on their new medical facility in Moore, Oklahoma. The new $29 million dollar health complex will be constructed on the site where Moore Medical Center once stood, near the corners of Telephone Road and 4th Street, with a tentative opening of Fall 2016. The former hospital was destroyed by an EF-5 tornado on May 20, 2013. No deaths or major injuries were sustained by the approximately 400 people inside the building at the time of the tornado.
The groundbreaking was part of the Moore Community Remembrance and Moore Medical Center Groundbreaking ceremony held at the former MMC site on the one year anniversary of the tornado.
The Health System will return with a technologically state-of-the-art facility that will serve the current needs of the city’s approximately 60,000 residents, and will be primed and ready for the growth that will happen in the future. The new facility is being designed with safety in mind and will be built using modern-day safety features. It will also include a tornado-safe zone for both patients and staff to use during severe weather situations. Additional services planned for the new facility include: full service emergency services; comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging; physical medicine services; laboratory services; physician offices; community education and meeting space; and a wellness/lifestyle center.
At the groundbreaking Richie Splitt, Chief Administrative Officer Moore Medical Center, also announced a major art tribute to honor the courage and caring that took place in the community on May 20, 2013, will be incorporated throughout the new facility.
