Update from Severe Weather on May 6, 2015

NORMAN - Norman Regional's team of healthcare professionals responded to and treated patients during severe weather on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

Norman Regional Hospital, 901 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, received one patient with injuries due to weather. The patient is in good condition.

EMSSTAT, Norman Regional's ambulance service, responded to 29 calls for service during the hours of 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on May 6 and May 7. Six of the calls were weather-related including four separate water rescue calls. A total of six patients were transported to local hospitals due to the weather. There were no fatalities.

Norman Regional Health System has safety procedures in place that all staff during severe weather. During the storm, patients were moved to storm-safe areas within each hospital and also at our temporary Emergency Room in Moore, Okla.

The HealthPlex campus, 3300 HealthPlex Parkway in Norman, was located closest to the storm and received minor damage including broken windows, one damaged door and some water inside the building. Debris such as awnings and tree limbs from neighboring buildings was blown into the parking lot. At the time of the storm, there were 111 patients at the HealthPlex. More than 500 community members also sought shelter at the hospital. The HealthPlex remains on back-up generator power due to the loss of two OG&E power stations.
