Family Medicine physician offers care at Norman Regional’s newest clinic

Christina Highley, MD

NORMAN - Christina Highley, MD, is one of the newest providers who has joined Norman Regional Health System to serve families in the Norman community.

Dr. Highley is the first of two doctors to begin working at the new Primary Care - Tacoma clinic, located at 3201 W. Tecumseh Rd., Suite 230. The second doctor, Dr. Rohitha Inturi, will begin seeing patients on Nov. 1.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Highley received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Oklahoma before obtaining her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She then moved to Louisiana for three years for a family medicine internship and residency at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. She is board certified in family medicine.

"Being a family medicine physician, I have the privilege of caring for everyone in a family, regardless of age. Caring for families creates a lasting bond and allows me to have a deeper understanding of their health. It's a bond that feels like being a part of their families and I want that connection with all of my patients," Dr. Highley said. "One of my hobbies is solving jigsaw puzzles. I love being able to see the end result of this beautiful, complete picture. I take the same approach with healthcare. Helping my patients go from sick to healthy is incredibly gratifying."

Dr. Highley said she has been drawn to medicine since she was a young girl, but her journey to becoming a doctor has been challenging.

"Learning to deal with the loss of an unborn child, becoming a mother and learning of my own medical condition that meant getting a pacemaker before the age of 30, all while going through medical school, provided experiences uncommon for medical students. Those experiences, while difficult, helped me relate more to my patients during internship and residency and will undoubtedly impact the relationships with my new patients," she said.

Dr. Highley said she hopes her patients walk away knowing they have a relationship with a provider they can rely on.

"Family healthcare is a journey and I'd love to be along for the ride," she added.

Dr. Highley loves spending time with her husband and two young sons. They enjoy traveling and experiencing new places and different foods, and listening to music while on the road. She also enjoys visiting art festivals and working in her flower garden.

One goal of Dr. Highley’s is to travel and help others.

"In the near future, I hope to be able to travel to other areas where modern medical care is scarce so I can help treat patients who may have never been seen by a physician," she said.

Dr. Highley is striving to offer same-day and next-day appointments. She offers wellness visits and physicals, sick care, and management of chronic conditions. To make an appointment with Dr. Highley, call the Primary Care - Tacoma clinic at 405-515-0800.
