Norman Regional Health System

Norman Regional's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is one of the few programs in Oklahoma that has achieved certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This honor is awarded to programs that demonstrate the highest standards of care and positive outcomes for their patients.

Our program is a comprehensive four-phase service focused on helping participants achieve their optimal level of health and wellness after experiencing a cardiac episode:

  • Phase I Inpatient phase at the Healthplex Heart Hospital
  • Phase II Outpatient phase at The Heart Plaza
  • Phase III Maintenance phase at The Heart Plaza
  • Phase IV Independent phase at The Health Club

With the professional expertise of our physicians, nurses, exercise specialists, dieticians and pharmacists, program participants will learn how to:

  • Exercise within safe limits
  • Increase energy and endurance
  • Understand heart disease
  • Modify risk factors
  • Understand medications
  • Control high blood pressure
  • Develop healthy eating habits
  • Lose weight
  • Lower Cholesterol
  • Improve diabetes
  • Manage stress
  • Quit smoking

Medicare and most private insurers cover cardiac rehab. If you have experienced any of the following events, you qualify:

  • Current stable angina pectoris (chest pain)
  • Acute myocardial infarction (MI) – within preceding 12 months
  • Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTCA)
  • Coronary stent placement
  • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
  • Heart valve repair/replacement
  • Heart or heart-lung transplant
  • Chronic heart failure (CHF)
