Heart & Lung Scans

Norman Regional offers a combined heart and lung scan. This quick, painless test can help diagnose heart disease and cancer as well as determine its severity. The screening utilizes a low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan to screen for lung cancer as well as measure your coronary artery calcium content for a cardiac score.

Cardiac scoring is a specialized scan that can determine your likelihood of developing heart disease. Scoring checks for calcium buildup in your blood vessels, this is a precursor to hardening of the arteries, plaque buildup and blockages.

You could benefit from this scan if you are any of the following:

  • Are over the age of 35
  • Have a family history of heart disease
  • Are a current or former smoker
  • Have been exposed to second-hand smoke for an extended period of time
  • Had a job with exposure to radon, asbestos or diesel exhaust

A Norman Regional Radiologist will read the scans. A report with your cardiac scoring will be given to you the day of the study and will be sent to your primary care physician. You will be notified of any abnormal findings by our specialized nurse navigator who will help guide you through the follow-up process. This screening also provides a baseline or point of reference for additional tests you may need throughout your life.

You don’t need a physician referral for this screening. The combined heart and lung scan takes fewer than 15 minutes and costs only $79.00.

The combined heart and lung scan is performed by appointment only at the Norman Regional HealthPlex and Norman Regional Moore facilities, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment call 405-307-2290.
