Tobacco Free Cleveland County Coalition is sponsoring a Legislative Breakfast at 8 a.m. Friday, January 8 at Norman Regional Hospital’s Education Center, 901 N. Porter Ave.
The Legislative Breakfast is an opportunity to meet and build a relationship with local representatives like Scott Martin, Bill Nations, and Senator John Sparks.
The public is invited to this meeting, at which the coalition hopes to impress their representatives on all the successes accomplished in tobacco control and the work that has been done in Cleveland County and around the state to lower adult tobacco rates and decrease youth initiation of tobacco products.
The coalition also would like to utilize this event to advocate for current tobacco control issues and become trusted resource representatives and their staff can turn to when they need information related to tobacco control.
Smoking is Oklahoma's leading preventable cause of death, killing more Oklahomans than alcohol, auto accidents, AIDS, suicides, murders, and illegal drugs combined. Smoking costs Oklahoma more than $2.7 billion in medical expenses and lost productivity each year – or an average of $750 per Oklahoman. Currently, compared to the rest of the nation, Oklahoma ranks 45th in adult smoking rates and 49th in the nation for its overall health status.
Breakfast will be served. For further information, call 405-307-6626.
