Norman Regional’s EMSSTAT, the emergency medicine service (EMS) for Norman and Moore, is now an approved National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Training Facility.
NAEMT is the only national association representing the professional interests of paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care.
EMSSTAT is offering a two-part session of the 2nd edition of NAEMT's Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course. This course is designed to teach EMS practitioners how to improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality prehospital. PHTLS emphasizes application of trauma education through case studies, skills practice and patient simulations.
Join EMSSTAT for a two-day PHTLS training designed for paramedics, EMTs, firefighters and other emergency medical professionals.
PHTLS Course Details:
Time: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Dates: Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26
Location: Norman Regional Education Center, 901 N Porter Ave., Norman, OK 73072
The PHTLS program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs.
The program promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care, and is based on the belief that when given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care.
The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:
- Physiology of life and death
- Scene assessment
- Patient assessment
- Hemorrhage control
- Airway
- Breathing, ventilation, and oxygenation
- Circulation and shock
- Special populations

PHTLS is the global gold standard in prehospital trauma education and is taught in over 80 countries. PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital practitioners. The program is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.
Norman Regional and EMSSTAT employees can sign up for $50. The price for those outside of Norman Regional is $300.
