You might remember the reunion of Norman resident Frances Tabler and her family with Norman Regional EMSSTAT paramedics Meagan Tompkins and Dustin McCoy in early March.
In late February, a tornado struck Norman, Oklahoma, leaving Tabler and her three children trapped inside their home with natural gas spewing from a broken meter. Norman Regional EMSSTAT paramedics, Tompkins and McCoy, were the first to arrive on the scene following the destructive tornado. They quickly moved bystanders to safety and accessed the severely damaged home without protective gear to safely evacuate the family, including their dog, Gracie.

McCoy suffered a gash on his arm from falling debris, but refused medical treatment to continue helping others. Tabler and her family met with Tompkins a few days after the tornado for an emotional reunion.
Their story got the attention of all four major OKC metro news stations, including KFOR Channel 4 News and their segment “Proud to Serve.”
In Mid-March, KFOR and Quail Creek Bank recognized Tompkins and McCoy for their service the night of the tornado. Quail Creek Bank presented an award to EMSSTAT and a $250 check to both Tompkins and McCoy for their heroic acts of service.
