Norman Regional’s EMSSTAT, the emergency medicine service (EMS) for Norman and Moore, is now an approved National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Training Facility.
NAEMT is the only national association representing the professional interests of paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care.
EMSSTAT is offering a two-part session of the 2nd edition of NAEMT's Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course. This course is designed to teach EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment, arming them with real life solutions to common situations they may encounter.

TECC Course Details:
Time: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Dates: Monday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 13
Locations:
- Monday, August 11: Norman Regional Education Center, 901 N Porter Ave., Norman, OK 73072
- Wednesday, August 13: Off-site location to be announced to class participants
The TECC course presents the three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature:
- Hot Zone/Direct Threat Care
- Rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions
- Warm Zone/Indirect Threat Care
- Rendering while the threat has been suppressed but may resurface at any point
- Cold Zone/Evacuation Care
- Rendered while the casualty is being evacuated from the incident site
The 16-hour TECC classroom course includes all new patient simulations and covers the following topics:
- Hemorrhage control including immediate action drills for tourniquet application throughout the course
- Complete coverage of the MARCH assessment
- Surgical airway control and needle decompression
- Strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments
- Caring for pediatric patients
- Techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety
- A final, mass-casualty/active shooter event simulation
NAEMT's TECC course is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on TECC (Co-TECC), and meets all of the updated National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Competency Domains. This course is accredited by CAPCE for 16 hours of continuing education credit, and recognized by NREMT.
Norman Regional and EMSSTAT employees can sign up for $50. The price for those outside of Norman Regional is $300.
