Schedule a Mammogram

Every woman is at risk for breast cancer, and mammograms are the single most effective method of early detection.

Mammography, a crucial breast screening tool, harnesses X-ray technology to generate vital breast images, known as mammograms.

In today's modern healthcare landscape, the gold standard for mammography is Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), also known as "tomo" or 3-dimensional (3D) mammography.

Expert radiologists, extensively trained in mammogram interpretation, meticulously scrutinize these images to identify any potential signs of breast cancer.

The Oklahoma Breast Center Breast Imaging Services offers 3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis. Three-dimensional mammography is a type of digital mammography in which X-ray machines are used to take pictures of thin slices of the breast from different angles and computer software is used to reconstruct an image.

3D mammography lets doctors better evaluate breast images, layer by layer, for greater accuracy. Greater accuracy means both better breast cancer detection and less of a chance a patient will need additional imaging/testing. 3D mammography is performed similar to traditional mammography.

The American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation recommend the following guidelines for breast screening:

  • Age 20-plus: Perform monthly breast self-examinations. Become familiar with the normal look and feel of your breasts. If ANY change occurs, report it to your doctor.
  • Age 20–39: Have a clinical breast examination by your doctor at least every three years.
  • Age 40-plus: Have an annual mammogram.
  • If you are under age 40 and have a family history of breast cancer or other concerns about your risk, talk with your doctor about when to begin mammography.

Imaging services offered at The Oklahoma Breast Center:

  • Digital 3D mammography
  • Diagnostic ultrasound
  • Image-guided biopsies
  • Breast MRI
  • Bone density

Before scheduling your mammography appointment, it's advisable to verify whether your insurance plan covers Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) to ensure you receive the most advanced and comprehensive breast screening available.

Clarix 3D Breast Specimen Imaging System

Norman Regional has installed the first CT (3D) breast specimen imaging system in the state of Oklahoma – the Clarix Imaging VSI-360 breast specimen imaging system. The Clarix Imaging system will help breast cancer surgeons identify tumors more easily during lumpectomy procedures.

In the world of medical technology, there's always a need for new tools that can improve patient care and make surgeries safer and more effective. That's where Clarix Imaging's VSI-360 comes in. This new technology is transforming the way surgeries are performed by giving doctors a clearer view of what's happening inside the body, which has a range of benefits for both patients and surgeons.
