“I chose family medicine because I like a bit of everything, however I discovered my love for the elderly population, hence my decision to obtain additional training in Geriatrics after my residency,” Dr. Okonkwo said. “This population is underserved and has complex medication comorbidities.”
He said patients should expect him to be a hard-working, diligent, compassionate and empathic physician. Dr. Okonkwo grew up in Nigeria and moved to the United States at age 17 to attend college. He is married to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurse. His hobbies include running and soccer. In fact, Dr. Okonkwo played soccer in college at Bowling Green State University in Ohio!
