What is Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation?

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation is an outpatient therapy program that develops a personalized treatment plan based on patients’ specific health status and needs. The treatment includes individualized physical activity, nutritional counseling, stress management, and other health-related care. Our goal is focused on helping participants achieve their optimal level of heart health and lung function.

Our program is a comprehensive four-phase service focused on helping participants achieve their optimal level of health and wellness after experiencing a cardiac episode:

​​​​With the professional expertise of our physicians, nurses, exercise specialists, dieticians and pharmacists, program participants will learn how to:
  • Cardiac Rehab:
    • Control high blood pressure
    • Develop healthy eating habits
    • Exercise within safe limits
    • Improve diabetes
    • Increase energy and endurance
    • Lose weight
    • Lower Cholesterol
    • Manage stress
    • Modify risk factors
    • Quit smoking
    • Understand heart disease and medications
  • Pulmonary Rehab:
    • Maintain health behaviors such as stopping smoking, improving nutrition and safely exercising
    • Manage stress, anxiety and depression
    • Reduce and control breathing difficulties and other symptoms
    • Understand COPD and other chronic lung disease processes
    • Understand medications and oxygen therapy

How Do I Know if I Qualify for Cardiopulmonary Rehab?

Medicare and most private insurers cover Cardiopulmonary Rehab. If you have experienced any of the following heart events of lung diagnoses, you qualify:

  • Heart Events:
    • Acute myocardial infarction (MI) – within preceding 12 months
    • Chronic heart failure (CHF)
    • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
    • Coronary stent placement
    • Current stable angina pectoris (chest pain)
    • Heart or heart-lung transplant
    • Heart valve repair/replacement
    • Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTCA)
  • Lung Diagnoses:
    • Asthma
    • Bronchiectasis
    • Chronic Bronchitis
    • COPD
    • Cystic Fibrosis
    • Emphysema
    • Interstitial Fibrosis
    • Lung Resection
    • Lung Transplant
    • Lung Volume Reduction
    • Restrictive Lung Disease
