Moore, OK – Norman Regional Moore, a $32 million dollar facility, will celebrate its opening with a free, community event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, 2016. It is scheduled to welcome its first patients later in the month of May.

The facility was rebuilt after an EF-5 tornado destroyed the former hospital Moore Medical Center on May 20, 2013.

"Norman Regional is proud of our commitment to rebuilding for our patients and community in Moore and excited to move into this permanent structure," said Richie Splitt, interim President and CEO of Norman Regional Health System. "The new building offers both enhanced space and room for growth, but the most important part of the new facility is what is inside its walls, the people. The same outstanding team members who are dedicated to providing lifesaving care for the community, can be found at Norman Regional Moore."

The new four-story structure offers a variety of services including:

  • A 24/7 Emergency Department that includes a fast track area for minor illness and injuries
  • Physical Therapy services
  • Diagnostic Imaging including MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-ray
  • Laboratory Services
  • Physician offices including Family Medicine, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Cardiology, and more
  • Conference space that doubles as a safe area for patients and staff

The public is invited to tour the facility before it opens to patients from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7. The day’s events also include a flag dedication ceremony and a live performance by country music artist Kellie Coffey. Other activities that day include:

Norman Regional had owned and operated the former Moore Medical Center for more than six years before it was destroyed during an EF-5 tornado on May 20, 2013. Due to the preparation and courage of those inside the building, no patients, staff, or visitors were injured inside the hospital on May 20. The building was declared a total loss and demolished in June of 2013.

Immediately after the tornado, employees from Moore Medical Center were found positions elsewhere within the Health System. The physician offices and clinics were also quickly relocated to temporary spaces in Norman and south Oklahoma City.

During the rebuilding process, government guidelines called for a name change for the facility and Moore Medical Center was renamed Norman Regional Moore.

The Norman Regional Master Facility Planning Committee was charged with the creation of a new facility and plan for the Health System. It took input from several key stakeholders including physicians, employees, and volunteers. A Moore Advisory Committee was also formed from city leaders, business owners, and citizens. The Health System also conducted a community survey about healthcare in Moore.

The results is the facility that will open in May – Norman Regional Moore, a uniquely modern building and tribute to the resiliency of the people of Moore.
