Norman Regional Health System Updates on United Insurance Contract Discussions

An Important Update About United Healthcare and Your Care with Norman Regional Health System

We know your health is what matters most. This page provides clear, in-depth information to help our patients understand how the change in our network relationship with United Healthcare (UHC) may affect them — and what we’re doing to support you.

Our commitment to you

  • Our doors remain open, and our teams are here to care for you.
  • Emergency care is always covered at your in-network level — never delay emergency care.
  • Many patients in active treatment or with scheduled care may keep in-network benefits temporarily through continuity of care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is happening?
Norman Regional is engaged in routine negotiations with insurance providers. This is a normal part of healthcare operations. If Norman Regional cannot come to an agreement with United Healthcare, non-emergent services provided at Norman Regional facilities and clinics will no longer be in network for UHC policyholders effective September 30, 2026.

Being “out of network” means UHC no longer has a contract that sets agreed upon rates for what the insurance company reimburses our health system, for care at our hospitals and facilities. We remain committed to reaching a fair agreement with UHC.

Q: Who is affected by this change?
This change affects patients who use Norman Regional facilities and employed providers and who are covered by the following UHC plans:

  • UHC commercial plans (including employer-sponsored plans)
  • UHC Medicare Advantage plans
  • Applicable UHC administrative-services-only (ASO) plans

Not sure if you’re affected? Check your member ID card or call the number on the back of your card to ask UHC directly.

Q: Which doctors, advanced practitioners, and facilities are impacted?
The change applies to Norman Regional Health System hospitals, facilities, and employed providers under the affected UHC agreements.

Other entities include Ortho Central Ambulatory Surgery Center and West Norman Endoscopy Ambulatory Surgery Center. This also includes laboratory and diagnostic imaging services at Norman Regional facilities.

If you receive care from an independent physician, who is not employed by NRHS that provider’s network status may be different. Please confirm with your provider’s office and with UHC.

Q: If I’m not covered by an United Healthcare health plan, does this affect me?
No. If your insurance is not through UHC, this change does not affect your coverage or your care at Norman Regional. You can continue to receive care as you always have.

Q: What if I’m pregnant or receiving treatment for an ongoing condition?
You may qualify for transition of care. This protection may allow you to keep your in-network benefits at Norman Regional for a limited time while you complete an active course of treatment.

Continuity of care commonly applies to situations such as pregnancy, recent surgery, or other serious or complex conditions. To request it, contact UHC using the number on your member ID card and ask about a transition-of-care or continuity-of-care request.

Q: What if I have an upcoming procedure at Norman Regional on or after September 30, 2026?
Please do not cancel your care before talking with us. Depending on your plan and situation, you may qualify for continuity-of-care benefits, or you may have other options. Contact our team so we can review your specific situation, help you understand potential costs, and connect you with a financial counselor if needed. You may reach Norman Regional’s team at 405-515-0682.

Q: What if I have a medical emergency on or after September 30, 2026?
Never delay emergency care. In an emergency, come to Norman Regional or call 911. Under federal law, emergency care is covered at your in-network cost-sharing level even when a hospital is out of network, and you are protected from surprise balance billing for emergency services.

Q: Can I still receive care at Norman Regional if I pay out of pocket?
Yes. You are always welcome at Norman Regional. We offer self-pay pricing, prompt-pay options, payment plans, and financial-assistance programs for those who qualify. Our financial counselors can review your options with you and help you understand your estimated costs before your care whenever possible.

Q: If my care is impacted, what should I do?
Here are the steps we recommend:

  • Call UHC using the number on the back of your member ID card to ask about your benefits and continuity-of-care options.
  • Call our dedicated help line so our team can assist with continuity-of-care requests, cost estimates, and financial-assistance options. You may reach Norman Regional’s team at 405-515-0682.
  • Don’t delay needed care — especially emergencies. Talk with us first if you have questions about scheduled care.

Q: What can patients do to help?

Patients can:

  • Call the Member Services number on the back of their UHC insurance card and share
  • Talk with their employer or Human Resources department about the issue if they get insurance through work.

Q: What if I have more questions?
Our team is here to help. Please contact us and we’ll walk you through your options.

  • Norman Regional Patient Financial Services
  • United Healthcare
    • Call the number on the back of your member ID card
