What is Nephrology?
Nephrology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the kidneys. A nephrologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, care, and treatment for diseases of the kidneys.
According to the National Kidney Foundation, kidney disease affects an estimated 37 million people, and is the ninth leading cause of death in the United States.
That’s why the physicians at Norman Regional Nephrology Associates are dedicated to improving the health and wellness of patients who are experiencing kidney or end stage renal disease.
Norman Regional offers nephrology services both inside our hospitals and in an outpatient clinic setting for patients 18 and older.
Some of the care our physicians provide at Norman Regional Nephrology Associates, our outpatient clinic, includes:
- Acute kidney failure
- Chronic kidney disease
- Dialysis management
- Electrolyte disorders
- Kidney stones
- Lupus nephritis
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Polycystic kidney disorder
A physician referral is required for new patients to see a physician at Nephrology Associates.
In the hospital, our nephrologists provide a complete range of specialized consultative, diagnostic, and treatment services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some of the hospital care they provide includes:
- Comprehensive renal function evaluation
- Diet and fluid management
They also make rounds on current patients as needed in all areas, including but not limited to, the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Rehabilitation, Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, and Dialysis units.
