Women’s and Children’s Care

Our Women’s and Children’s care team is eagerly awaiting your arrival; usually around 2 hours after delivery and continuing throughout the remainder of your stay. Your new room will look similar; however much less equipment is necessary so you’ll enjoy the additional space as you welcome your closest family and friends.

We provide a family-centered approach to our care and services while ensuring the highest level of security. This means rather than placing your baby in the nursery, our team of highly skilled mother-baby nurses and physicians come to you to provide care when possible. If, for any reason, your baby needs special care and equipment, we also offer a newborn nursery (just down the hall) as well as a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Care after delivery includes:

  • Personalized Care
  • Communication boards
  • Pasteurized Donor Human Milk
  • Skin-to-skin
  • If your baby is a boy, you will need to choose if a circumcision is desired while in the hospital. Your care team will discuss options prior to discharge.
  • Bedside services include:
    • Newborn Hearing Screens
    • Newborn’s 1st bath (photo opportunity!!!)
    • Newborn Testing at 24 hours of life
  • Daily quiet time (2:00 – 4:00 pm)
  • On-site Birth Certificate Clerk
  • Dedicated Social Work/Case Manager - Phone: 405-515-3912
  • Norman Regional Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapists develop personalized treatment care plans for all babies under 32 weeks and others as needed.

High Acuity Pediatric Care Post-Birth

Norman Regional is happy to offer high acuity care to our pediatric patients. Whether your child’s condition requires close observation, oxygen delivery, or even high flow oxygen we are here for you. We have specialty trained Physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists to help care for your child.

The Women’s and Children’s floor at Norman Regional Hospital cares for children with all kinds of illnesses. This includes higher acuity care for our patients in respiratory distress. We offer high flow oxygen support when a higher level of care is required. As well as specialty trained staff including Pediatric Hospitalists, Nurses, and Respiratory Therapists.

High-flow oxygen therapy is a non-invasive treatment that delivers oxygen to patients who have low oxygen levels despite trying traditional oxygen therapy. It's often used for patients with respiratory distress caused by conditions like asthma, and acute respiratory distress from a variety of respiratory viruses.

Antepartum care. Women with high-risk pregnancies may need to stay in the hospital before giving birth and receive specialized prenatal care.

Some reasons you may stay as an antepartum for monitoring:

  • High blood pressure
  • 24 hour urine
  • Pyelonephritis
  • Kidney stones
  • Premature rupture of membranes

GYN Surgical Care

Following a surgery, our Women’s and Children’s floor offers specialized post surgical care.

Gynecology surgery includes any surgical procedure that involves the organs and structure of the female pelvic region: the uterus, ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva. There are many reasons why a woman might need to undergo gynecology surgery.

If you and your surgeon decide you need close observation by women’s health nurses after your GYN surgery, you will find what you need on our Women’s and Children’s floor.

We offer:

  • Specialty trained nurses and staff
  • OB hospitalists
  • Spacious rooms with private bathrooms
  • Bladder scanner

Women's and Children's Unit

Norman Regional Hospital's Women's and Children's unit is where new mothers and their newborns are transferred after being in the Labor and Delivery unit. Mom and newborn stay in the Women's and Children's unit throughout the remainder of your stay. This unit is also where patients stay post-gynecological surgery.

Norman Regional's Maternity Services

We were the first hospital in Oklahoma to be certified in Perinatal Care, then later receiving an advanced certification status from the Joint Commission. We are proud to be the first certified OB Emergency Department (OBED) in the United States. Norman Regional's Obstetrical Emergency Department (OBED) also received first-in-the-nation accreditation by the CIHQ (Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality).

Pediatric Hospitalists

Norman Regional Hospital’s pediatric hospitalists provide quality and compassionate newborn care for your new baby. Meet our hospitalists:

Family Medicine Practitioners

Within our network of outpatient primary care clinics, we have many physicians and advanced practice providers who specialize in family medicine. These practitioners see patients of all ages and are able to care for you and your entire family. Our family medicine providers have a passion for keeping kids healthy through preventive care, safety, exercise and good nutrition. They're available for well-child checks, immunizations, school physicals, sick care and overall medical needs that may arise for your child.

Urgent Care and Walk-in Clinics

If your child ever ends up with an illness, a minor scrape or burn, and can't get in to see their family medicine provider, we offer same-day services at our four Urgent Care and Walk-in Clinics! For the price of a primary care visit, our Urgent Care and Walk-in Clinics prioritize your health with fast and efficient care, no appointment needed. Our teams of skilled physicians and advanced practice providers provide a comprehensive range of services to address your immediate healthcare needs today, not next week.

Emergency Department

Emergencies are inevitable - things happen, and Norman Regional understands the importance of care when it comes to emergencies. Our state-of-the-art emergency services are available every second of every day at three locations in the Norman Regional Health System, with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses prepared to handle any emergency.

Our emergency departments see patients of all ages, including pediatric patients. In the event that your pediatric-age child needs emergency care, Norman Regional will be here for them. We will bring them in, stabilize them, and ensure they get the immediate care they need.

If your child happens to need an elevated level of care, like an overnight observation or an inpatient stay following their emergency, they will be stabilized in our ER and safely transported by our EMSSTAT ambulance service. Your child will be taken to a hospital that offers inpatient pediatric care, as Norman Regional does not offer inpatient pediatric services.
